Dr. François Saulnier

Specialist in Small Animal Surgery

Dr. François Saulnier is a European Board-Certified Specialist and an RCVS-recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. He has been registered as a Specialist Surgeon in Hong Kong for the past five years.

His surgical specialisation journey began more than 20 years ago. He graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in France in 2002 and subsequently completed a two-year general internship, followed by a surgical internship at the prestigious Maisons-Alfort Veterinary School in Paris. He was then accepted into a three-year residency programme in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Liège in Belgium.

Following this intensive specialist training, Dr. Saulnier was recruited as an Assistant Professor in Small Animal Surgery at the Atlantic Veterinary College (UPEI, Canada), where he prepared for the ECVS board examination. He later returned to the United Kingdom and obtained his European Diploma in Small Animal Surgery in 2010, earning the title of European Specialist.

Dr. François began his Asian journey eight years ago in Singapore, where he contributed to founding the first specialist-only multidisciplinary veterinary hospital in the country. He later moved to Hong Kong, where he practised for five years in leading referral hospitals.

His mission is to provide Specialist-level care that is more affordable, closer to the primary veterinarian, while preserving continuity of care with the doctor owners already know and trust.

His clinical interests encompass all aspects of soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, as well as surgical oncology (tumour investigation and excision), wound reconstruction, hepatic surgery, and minimally invasive techniques (including urethral and tracheal stenting). His research has focused on novel spinal surgical approaches and the management of spinal compressions and tumours.

Dr. François regularly performs different procedures:

  • Orthopaedic procedures for traumatic injuries (fractures and luxations)
  • Advanced neurosurgical procedures (IVDD, spinal fractures, atlantoaxial instability)
  • A wide range of routine and complex soft tissue surgeries
  • Portosystemic Shunt Surgery (SHUNT)
  • Subcutaneous Ureeral Bypass Surgery (SUB)
