Minimally invasive surgery uses very small incisions to perform treatment, resulting in smaller wounds, less pain and faster recovery.
We offer laparoscopic ovariectomy, also known as keyhole spaying, as a modern neutering option for female dogs and cats. This minimally invasive technique is widely regarded as the gold standard for spaying.
Laparoscopic surgery uses small incisions and a camera to remove the ovaries with minimal tissue trauma. Compared with a traditional open spay, it offers several important benefits:
• Less pain after surgery
• Faster recovery, with most dogs needing only 2–3 days of rest
• Reduced risk of complications, including bleeding
• Tiny scars, usually two incisions of 0.5–1 cm
Your dog or cat will stay with us for the day, just as with a traditional spay. Under general anaesthetic, two small incisions are made in the abdomen. A camera and specialised instruments are used to remove the ovaries, and the incisions are closed with dissolvable stitches. Most dogs can go home the same day.
• Sterilization Surgery: Laparoscopic ovariectomy, Laparoscopic ovarian remnant syndrome, Laparoscopic cryptorchidectomy
• Preventive Surgery: Laparoscopic gastropexy
• Diagnostic Procedures: Laparoscopic liver biopsy, Laparoscopic lymph node biopsy, Laparoscopic abdominal mass biopsy
All laparoscopic ovariectomies are performed by Dr Hannah, who completed laparoscopic surgery training in 2016 and has since carried out hundreds of laparoscopic spay procedures.
